A chance to network with voice over royalty!

There is no substitute to real, face-to-face rendezvous where long-term relationships are fostered. In fact, network creation, the old-fashioned way, is very much a need in the voice over industry.

Real, human connections require handshakes, eye-contact and the buzzing noise of an engaging conversation. With all its advantages, social media remains a virtual alternative, therefore not so powerful as the real good old fashioned meeting. With personal interaction you meet people and you get to know them, with social media you just get acquainted, which is not the same thing.

For many voice talents, the times that when they visited studios and met there other colleagues are almost gone, simply because we do more and more jobs in our home studios. It’s time to break the bubble of our booths to meet other colleagues and learn more about this ever-changing industry. There is now a good chance to do just that in Toronto, Canada. You will have the opportunity of networking with the VO royalty as well as other VIPs from the voicing art. So put this date in your diary – Saturday May 4th 2013.

If you are a budding VO artist or even a seasoned veteran and can get to Toronto on May 4th then you’re in for a treat. The reason being is that the Toronto Hilton Hotel will be hosting the VoiceWorld conference on that day and everybody who is in anybody in the voice over world will be sharing their wisdom about the industry.

If you are new to the VO business, then this is a fantastic opportunity to rub shoulders with the movers and shakers in the VO industry and learn what it takes to be a successful voice over talent.

Even if you are an experienced professional this promises to be a great event. You never stop learning in this industry and there are always opportunities that can present themselves at gatherings like this.

So who’s going to be speaking at the event?

Well, anybody who has been in the industry for a while will be familiar with many of the names who will be there. VO talents such as Pat Fraley, Deb Munro and Dan Lenard are people that you will no doubt of heard of. They are very visible on the World Wide Web with many articles written by them on various VO websites and forums. They can be accurately described as thought leaders in the industry so getting to hear them at the conference will be enlightening for everyone.

Obviously there will be many of us who can’t get to Toronto so keep this website bookmarked and keep your eyes open for any informative features, articles, blogs, videos etc that will probably materialise after this event.

Opportunities to network like this should always be embraced by VO artists. They are great for inspiring and renewing interest in the wonderful world of voice over and not only that, the practicalities about working in the industry are nuggets of information that can only enhance your career.

Let us insist on this point: as well as the great connections you can make, networking for a VO artist is a good thing because it gets you out of the isolation zone that you can find yourselves in.

Working in voice over can be an isolating experience. You will spend a lot of time in front of your computer and in a soundproof booth so getting out there once in a while is a positive move. Go to networking events, meet face to face with other business owners, you never know who you are going to meet or get an introduction to.

Your next client might only be a meeting away!  If you plan to attend or not at all, please tell us why. If you are one of the lucky ones, we appreciate your feedback after the conference.
